Earth, Fire, Wind, Water... Blood?

“BY ORDER OF THE EMPIRE, you are to lay down your weapons and surrender.” A stiff, jack-booted individual in officer’s clothing stood before us with a small contingent of soldiers, all dressed in branded Imperial armor.

“No.” Garret pulled his axe from his back then twisted the handle, shifting it to a war pick.

“What do you mean, no?” The officer looked absolutely incredulous. His face screwed up in anger as he pulled a long, thin sword from a scabbard at his hip.

The rest of the Imperial soldiers did the same, drawing their varied weapons.

“There’s a few of them,” Garret said, tilting his head toward Eberand.

“Yep, we’re pretty well outnumbered here, about three to one,” Eberand replied.

“Bad odds for them,” Zeno said with a snort.

“Do not have ego,” I cautioned, drawing Gamma and preparing to fight.

“This is your last chance. Surrender now, or we’ll simply destroy you where you stand.” The officer raised his sword with his leg forward and the blade outstretched in front of himself.

“I will give you to the count of three to surrender peacefully,” the officer continued.

“One.” He began to bounce on his toes.

“Two.” Zeno, Garret, Eberand, and I all prepared ourselves to attack.

“Three—” His voice rose as he finished speaking, but he was stopped at the last moment when a splatter of blood from a soldier standing to his right splashed across his face.

A blur of motion whipped through the group all at once, and the first soldier clenched at his neck, fell to the ground, and ruptured in a flash of shattering white fragments. Another soldier fell to his knees, crying in agony.

There was chaos rippling through the small contingent of soldiers, and we took the opportunity to sow more.

The officer leading the group turned his back to us to see what was going on, giving me the opportunity to strike.

I fired a triple volley of Shatter Spike, which slammed into the officer’s back, throwing him to the ground.

The bolts erupted in a black cloud of Chaos energy, which arced through the group like lightning, hitting several other soldiers as well.

Garret charged in, taking one of the downed soldiers in the side of the head with his war pick. The soldier’s head made a horrible crunching noise as the blade of the pick stuck in the side of his head. His body immediately exploded in white shards.

Zeno summoned his Blood Wolves, which ran through the group, ravaging legs and knocking a couple of the soldiers to the ground, where the wolves tore out throats and ripped through heavy armor with relative ease.

It was obvious that metal would do nothing to stop living blood.

Eberand jammed his sword into the ground, cracking the stone. He let out a series of musical notes in a shout, which was both confusing and disorienting, and the ground beneath the soldiers who remained bucked and swayed, before erupting in a series of earthen pillars.

The stone monoliths shot up into the air, their tips narrow spikes, impaling several of the soldiers, while others were simply knocked down or pushed aside.
